I’ve been getting a lot of questions on how I have been growing my hair so well and keeping it looking so healthy. So I thought I’d make a blog about it so I could share.
I have not cut my hair since August of last year 2014. I’ll take you through this step-by-step of how I wash my hair, the products I use, and how I keep it healthy.
STEP 1: Do not wash your hair everyday. I wash my hair every 4 to 5 days. Yep you read that right! You’re probably thinking, “but oh my gosh Alyssa you work out like every day doesn’t your hair get sweaty?!” Well sure it does which is why some days call for cute hats, buns, and ponytails!
STEP 2: when washing your hair ONLY wash the scalp never the full hair. Washing all of the hair strips it of natural oils.
STEP 3: only condition the hair not the scalp. Conditioning the scalp weighs your hair down making it look flat.
STEP 4: DONT rinse out all of the conditioner. Sort of run your hair under the water with no intention of rinsing out all of the conditioner.
STEP 5: towel dry your hair. I NEVER EVER blow dry.
STEP 6: once hair is towel dried rub a tablespoon of coconut oil in the palm of your hands and run it from the middle of the hair all the way down to the tips. Keep running your fingers through your hair to disperse evenly.
STEP 7: once hair is air dried put it in a braid. You can go about your day like this or even go to bed. But make sure you braid your hair after every shower.
The next day I let it down and style as I would like. You will notice how shiny and healthy it looks over time your hair will grow really well. The braiding is the magic here 🙂 and the key is blow drying never. I do however curl my hair for special occasion (~2x/month).
